During my time at Penn Interactive I was a Senior Graphic Designer for the Barstool Sportsbook. I was responsible for coming up with the ads for outbound marketing and the promotions for retention targeting active users on the app. Part of my time was also dedicated to managing our agency relationship and providing creative direction for static and video assets.
Creating a promo
Running and creating new promotions was my bread and butter while working with the sportsbook and most requests started here. The following is an example of this process with some of the campaign assets.
Parlay+ was a new feature that had just launched for the sportsbook. It is a bet type where you can place wagers on same game parlays for certain sports. Sport highlights from different games on a film reel was the focus much like an actual parlay+ bet usually needs in order to hit. Individual sport promos still had the colors and filters to align visually but with a different backgrounds.
OTHER PROMO EXAMPLES
Over time I created quite a few promotions for the sportsbook both from a retention marketing standpoint as well as outbound acquisition promos centering around sign up bonuses and special marketing backed promotions. Here are some examples.
Email templating
There was an established template for emails upon joining but it was eventually updated and fleshed out more. I created shell templates for the different welcome series emails that needed to be built out. The thought was to make them as modular as possible incase a layout change was requested so most sections were planned with this in mind.
Stylistically the content mirrored most promotion guidelines I had established further connecting these welcome emails with the promotions that were available on the app or being promoted on social media. I also designed the slices to work on light or dark mode screens.
End of year recap
As the end of the year approached there was an idea to share some generic stats out to players as a fun engaging way to tie up the year. I designed an email to include all the categories and included sport assets to break it up.
Signage & graphics
A new office had been recently finished and the team was looking to liven it up with some signage and graphics throughout. I came up with mockups of various walls, rooms and signs to later work with a print shop on.
Video art direction
Over the months that I oversaw the agency relationship I provided creative direction and outlines for different video projects including an App Store video, team member education video and the bottom example.
After the launch of the sportsbook the casinos requested some educational videos that could be shown all over on displays to educate and inform bettors about how to use the sportsbook. Each video would highlight a different part of the app and started with me creating outlines of every video along with getting screen grabs and creating storyboards for the agency to eventually create videos like this.
